The custom estate in Windermere, Florida, that was a longtime getaway for Shaquille O’Neal and co. found a buyer on the cusp of winter. The Orlando-area warm-weather retreat went to a new owner this week for $11 million. The initial ask back in 2018 was $28 million; subsequent price cut brought the figure down to $16.5 million in the spring of this year.
The Big Shaqtus’s now-former property is big in every way. The mansion is a sprawling leviathan with a soaring porte-cochere as a preamble and 31,000 sq. ft. of interior living space; the estate’s centerpiece is a private water park that came to be known over the years as ‘Shaq-aplulco’; cute, but a multi-level pool complex with 95-foot-long main section, a waterfall and a deep end that measures in at 15 feet makes for a portion of what must be a substantial overall upkeep expense, and perhaps one reason why this property took over three years to change hands.
Other grandly proportioned amenities on the estate include a collector’s auto showroom, a formal dining room with hardwood trim and wainscoting, an office with a ceiling finished with burled veneer, a great room nearly large enough to play basketball in, and an indoor basketball court to actually play basketball in. The property’s grounds span 3.94 acres, and border Lake Butler with 700 feet of frontage; a pier with boat lifts accommodates fishing vehicles.
As for accommodations, the estate features twelve bedrooms and at least thirteen baths. The master is another mega-space, with a mega-bed suitable for a defensive court jester with a knack for nicknames.
