Celebrity Homes // Dinner With an NFL Legend? Emmitt Smith Lists Texas Mansion for $2.2M

It’s possible to follow in the footsteps of NFL Hall of Famer and “Dancing with the Stars” winner Emmitt Smith—if you have the dough. You can buy his huge Texas home.

Set behind gates in the Dallas suburb of Addison, the mansion is on the market for $2.2 million. The price is a nod to the No. 22 that Smith wore for 15 seasons in the NFL.

“The owner makes it extremely unique. There is only one Emmitt Smith and only one house he has lived in after his football career,” says listing agent Arthur Greenstein, with Douglas Elliman Real Estate.

And whoever buys the house will have a unique opportunity: a dinner with Smith himself.

“I’m the one that supposedly has to pay for it,” Greenstein says with a laugh. “He’s a great host and a great guy, and he loves to be out and about in Dallas. He’s an international superstar and is known not just for football but also for ‘Dancing with the Stars.’”

Smith starred for the Dallas Cowboys from 1990 to 2002, before a two-season stint with the Arizona Cardinals. He won three Super Bowls, was inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2010, and holds the NFL record for career rushing yards.

After he hung up his helmet, Smith won the third season of “Dancing with the Stars” with partner Cheryl Burke and then returned as an All-Star in the show’s 15th season.

Smith had the house built in 1995 and has lived there ever since.

“Emmitt always was a type of guy that wanted to have a big family, so when he got his contract over here in Dallas and started building the house, he was still a single guy. But he always had envisioned growing into a house,” Greenstein says.

Smith got married in 2000 and now that his kids are growing up, Greenstein says, it’s time for the former running back to downsize from the 10,806-square-foot home.

The sleek kitchen features glossy cabinetry offset by black stone countertops and flooring.

An adjacent dining room seats 22 people, another nod to his jersey number.

“It’s an enormous dining room, and the living room is also giant. It’s not just for Thanksgiving and Christmas. He hosts all the graduations and all the major events that happen in his family, and he is always the most gracious host.”

There are five bedrooms, including two master suites. The main-floor suite includes a seating area with fireplace, a steam room, a bath with two toilets, and spacious closets.

“It’s a legit full master bedroom which is bigger than most people’s houses,” Greenstein says.

For entertainment, there’s a home theater, game room, and pool.

While the home remains grand in scale, it likely needs a decor refresh.

“Styles change, and different people like different things. Twenty-five years ago, this was what was in style. Everything was incredibly sophisticated for its time. But considering that he has lived there for 25 years, it does need a couple little upgrades and style changes,” Greenstein says.

Still, there have been some interested buyers who don’t want to change a thing, he adds.

“There was one person that wanted everything in the house. I haphazardly asked them if they wanted the mattress, and they said, ‘Yes, we want the mattress,’” Greenstein says with a laugh.
