Celebrity Homes // Nelly’s Run-Down Missouri Mansion Has Finally Sold

The rapper Nelly has finally unloaded his woebegone property in Wildwood, MO. It was last on the market for $599,000, but the final sale price of the abandoned abode was not disclosed. However, the transaction is listed as a short sale, which means that Nelly was selling for less than what is owed on the mortgage.

The rapper—whose given name is Cornell Iral Haynes Jr.—bought the formerly grand estate in 2002 for $1,925,000.

Although he reportedly purchased it with plans to remodel the property and then flip it, the work was never completed. The remodel appears to have been abandoned long since. However, for someone with the rehab know-how, the asking price may have represented a deal.

As we previously reported, when the fixer-upper was listed in February, even in its decrepit state, it had already received multiple offers.

The upside could be considerable. A 10,000-square-foot mansion in the area is listed for almost $2 million.

The St. Louis native had apparently started work on the home a couple of decades ago, but hadn’t gotten very far. Now, the new owner will probably have to rip out what had been started and invest a substantial amount to bring the home back to life.

The elements are there. The palatial estate offers six bedrooms and 6.5 bathrooms, on nearly 11,000 square feet. Described as an “amazing investment opportunity” in the listing, the mansion, which was built in 1998, is said to feature “some of the best views in Missouri.”

The mansion is accessed by motor court, and its high-ceilinged, large-volume rooms open with a two-story entrance. Details include dramatic vaulted ceilings, columns, and walls of glass to take in the views of the Meramec River valley.

Although it’s hard to tell right now, the floor plan is said to offer a great room, separate dining room, breakfast room, media room, game room, library, fireplaces, and multiple balconies. In many places, the unfinished space is waiting for the flooring to be installed.

The work needed—at least from what can be gleaned from the listing photos—includes updating and possibly expanding the kitchen, gutting the bathrooms, adding flooring, and fixing up the pool.

Outside, the 12-acre property includes a basketball court, pool, hot tub, and three-car garage.

The grounds and water features will need serious rehab before the place is ready to host a pool party. A partially demolished wall also needs to be addressed in the backyard.

The home is minutes from the Hidden Valley Ski Resort in Eureka, the listing notes, and about 30 miles from St. Louis.

The home last made headlines in 2009, when it was reportedly burglarized, and some video games and electronics were stolen. Nelly wasn’t there at the time.

The St. Louis native previously owned a lakefront residence in his home town, which was featured on a 2002 episode of “MTV Cribs,” showing off its motor court, filled with luxury cars. The rapper reportedly sold the home, which had four bedrooms and a boat dock, in 2010.

The “Work It” performer competed on Season 29 of “Dancing With the Stars,” and starred in the sitcom spoof “Real Husbands of Hollywood” with Kevin Hart. The Grammy-award winner had been living with his long-time girlfriend, Shantel Jackson, in Calabasas. However, the couple have recently split.

Tadlock Brueggemann Real Estate with Keller Williams Realty represented both sides of the deal.
